Kopstal

“Den Hexemeeschter (The Warlock)” is the title of a well-known song in Luxembourg. It tells the story in particular of a husband who suspects his wife of attending nocturnal meetings of witches in Kopstal.

Rest assured, you will not find any trace of witchcraft in this village nestled in the deep valley of the Mamer River. On the other hand, take a walk through the woods that surround it and you will admit that you risk being overwhelmed by an impression of enchantment that will make you quickly forget that you are just ten kilometres from the capital.

It is not surprising that a wide variety of hiking options will enable you to discover this undeniably charming natural setting, as you explore the wooded surroundings and walk along the Mamer with its many mills, on a 22 km national trail for instance. There are also self-guided tours of various lengths through the hills around Kopstal.

Situated on a plateau in the direction of the capital, the proud town of Bridel, which forms one municipality with Kopstal, strikes a stark contrast with the pastoral character of the village. Cut off from the city of Luxembourg only by Bambësch Forest, Bridel is a residential conurbation much in demand for its quality of life and green surroundings. By away of proof, a gigantic Oaktree, listed among the remarkable trees of Luxembourg, has given its name to the small square that huddles in its shadow.

The municipality has a cultural centre that features a varied programme. As to the pleasures of the palate, restaurants and brasseries for all tastes and budgets await you in Bridel as well as in the village of Kopstal, including the Weidendall inn-restaurant which also offers rooms for overnight accommodation.
