Description
The Charly Gaul cycle route starts in Ellange-gare on the PC7 and continues to the Circuit du Centre in Hesperange (PC1).
The PC14 cycle path is dedicated to Charly Gaul, a versatile Luxembourgish cyclist who, among other achievements, won the Tour de France in 1958 and was Luxembourg cyclo-cross champion. His abilities as a pure climber, when the road ascends, earned him the nicknames "winged climber" or "angel of the mountains." He is known as one of the greatest climbers of the century. He also won the Giro d'Italia in 1956 and 1959. He was particularly popular in bad weather, where he could create huge gaps and disrupt the rankings.
Directions
The route of this cycle path is currently under review. Passable but still not signposted is the section between Hassel and Ellange-gare (PC7). At the exit of Hassel on the CR162 towards Dalheim, turn right onto the local road. Upon arriving in Filsdorf, the track crosses the N13, "route des trois cantons," and follows the "Kiirchestrooss" to its intersection with the CR162 "Munnerëferstrooss," where you turn right and continue for about 100 meters before turning left onto the "Leichewee" (CR155). After a short climb, the track reaches Dalheim with the famous Dalheimer Adler and the Roman excavation site. The track then follows the N13 eastward towards Bous and Remich until the intersection with the CR148 "Hossegaass," where you must turn right onto a local road. The track leads towards Welfrange, which can be seen on the descent to the CR148 on the left. The track continues straight on the CR148 and at the first right-hand bend of the CR148, it continues straight onto the local road. After a short climb, a panoramic view opens up to Ellange, Ellange-gare, and Elvange in the east and Mondorf-les-Bains to the south. The winding descent ends at the entrance to Ellange "rue Killen." In Ellange, the path ascends on the other side of the CR149 the "rue du Curé" and ends on an unpaved section on the PC7 of the "Jangeli" near Ellange-gare.
